Fairfield Trustees Agree to Contract with Hilcorp Involving Drilling Under Cemetery

From The Morning Journal:
Fairfield Township trustees approved a contract that includes one-quarter acre of Bunker Hill Cemetery into production property from a gas and oil drilled lateral from the Nolker wellsite with a 2-1 vote on Thursday.

Ben Mehl of Western Land Services, representing Hilcorp Energy, said the one-year contract included a $ 500 signing bonus and a 15 percent royalty provision from the gross proceeds.
Trustee Chairman Bob Hum voted against the measure that trustees discussed at previous meetings and held off on because of the small amount of money. Hum had also noted that Hilcorp could place the property into a production royalty unit anyway.
Trustee Barry Miner asked Mehl what would happen if the township failed to sign the contract.
Mehl said, "They would shrink the size of the lateral excluding everyone else."
