Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Under Fire From Environmentalists

Environmentalists say a conservancy district violated the public trust by once again agreeing to quench the thirst of drillers in eastern Ohio. 
The publicly-funded Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District broke its pledge to delay temporary water sales, environmental advocates argue. The district, however, maintains its decision will not impact recreation at any of its 12 reservoirs and will allow it to invest the proceeds into projects that benefit the public. 
The mineral-rich Utica Shale has attracted multi-billion dollar oil and gas firms to the state, where they want to use horizontal hydraulic fracturing techniques to release natural gas and lucrative liquid hydrocarbons. 
Fracking requires millions of gallons of water, which is where the conservancy district -- owner of all the land surrounding six man-made lakes near the bull's-eye of drilling activity -- comes in. After signing a few leases allowing oil and gas exploration and making one agreement in April to sell water, the district administration was deluged with complaints.

The Second Largest Oil and Gas Merger - Cabot and Cimarex

       Due to investor pressure, the U.S shale drillers are being pushed to improve financial and operational performance after a few years of poor returns. Even though the industry has improved its numbers, when compared to last year, investors still want more to be done for them to earn more money.      That's why two mid-tier shale drillers, Cabot and Climarex, have decided to merge in order to eliminate $100 million in annual costs, which means more money for the investors. This all-stock transaction is valued at about $7.4 billion, which is relatively high for the oil and gas sector.      The new entity will be renamed and the headquarters located in Houston, Texas. Cabot shareholders will own 49.5 percent of the new entity, and Climarex the rest.       The Cimarex-Cabot merger will address the investor's demand for a higher amount of returning cash.
