Ohio Goes Over 1,000 Utica Shale Permits; Number of Wells Producing Goes Way Up, Too

The latest weekly permitting report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reveals that Ohio's Utica shale has passed a couple of milestones.

There were 13 new permits issued last week.  5 of those permits were for Harrison County, while Guernsey and Carroll counties were locations for 3 permits each.  1 permit was issued for both Belmont and Washington counties as well.

With the latest round of permitting, Ohio is now up to 1,006 horizontal drilling permits for the Utica shale.  Also surprising is to see that the number of wells producing went from 189 on the previous report to 250 on this latest one.  The wells drilled number climbed to 617, and the Utica rig count is at 42.
