Utica Shale Rig Count Dips Into Single Digits

As activity continues to limp along in Ohio's Utica shale, the latest weekly permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources gives the latest reminder of how drastically things have slowed down.  In December of 2014 the Utica rig count had reached 59; last week it fell into the single digits (9).  Just five new permits were issued for drilling last week, leaving the current totals at 2,179 wells permitted, 1,747 wells drilled, and 1,325 wells producing.
