Utica Shale Inches Towards 1,600 Permits in Latest Update

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has posted the report on permitting activity for last week.  17 new permits were issued for horizontal drilling in the state's Utica shale formation.

Harrison County remains a busy spot for permitting, with 6 of the 17 permitted wells located there.  Other counties receiving new permits last week: Guernsey (4), Columbiana (3), Belmont (1), Carroll (1), Jefferson (1), and Tuscarawas (1).

These 17 permits bring the new total of wells permitted in the state to 1,581.  1,148 wells have now been drilled, 611 are producing, and the Utica rig count is 46.
