Utica Shale Closes In On 1,500 Wells Permitted

The latest weekly Utica shale permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is now available, and it was another busy week of activity for permits in the southern part of the play.

20 new permits were issued last week.  Belmont County was the hot spot, with 7 of those permits.  Noble County was the site of 6 new permits, all issued to Antero Resources.  The other 7 permits were divided between Harrison (4), Tuscarawas (2), and Guernsey (1) counties.

With these 20 new permits Ohio's Utica shale now stands at 1,487 total permits issued.  1,061 wells have been drilled, 561 wells are producing, and the Utica rig count is 45.
