Ohio Utica Shale Permitting Takes a Nosedive Last Week

The latest weekly permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is now available, and the brakes were slammed on activity last week.

After an average of just under 24 permits appeared on the previous four weeks' reports, only one permit is listed for the week of October 25 to October 31.  That permit was issued to XTO Energy for the driller's Kaseta Unit B 2H well in Belmont County.

Despite one new permit being listed, the cumulative total of permits issued actually decreased this week to 2,065.  Despite the slowdown in new permitting, the number of wells drilled did increase by 5, to 1,629.  The producing wells figure has also gone up, from 1,026 last week to 1,032 this week.  The rig count is down from 24 to 22.
