Senators Press Environmentalists To Name a Proven Case of Groundwater Contamination From Fracking

From The Hill's E2-Wire:
“I keep hearing from the environmental groups that there are many examples of contamination of groundwater. And I keep hearing from the industry ... that they don’t know of a single incident," Landrieu said. "Please do not give me theories — just give me one site."
Amy Mall, senior policy analyst with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), pointed to an article that indicated water pollution in Pennsylvania communities.
“There is no doubt that water has been contaminated by natural gas production,” Mall said.
But industry officials and state regulators pushed back against that claim.

Anecdotal evidence is abundantly available that fracking has caused problems with water.  There is no shortage of people willing to come forward with horror stories (especially if there is a chance of getting some money out the drilling companies through a lawsuit).  When pressed for scientific evidence, though, there isn't much that green groups can point to outside of theoretical studies that allege contamination from fracking is possible.  Is that because the scientists and agencies that are actually testing water wells are being bought off by the oil and gas industry, or is it because fracking simply doesn't pollute groundwater?
