Shale Industry Drives West Virginia to Status as Top State in Economic Growth

West Virginia was just ranked the highest for the most economic growth of any state in the country. 
In less than a decade, the unemployment rate in Brooke County has been cut in half, now standing at 6.8 percent. 
These numbers are the lowest they’ve been in recent history. With the oil and gas industry, the hope is that unemployment will continue to dip.

"You go back 20, 30 years ago, all people talked about was going to work at the mill that was the opportunity,” said Business Development Corporation Executive Director Pat Ford. 
The opportunity for employment has changed with the times. 
Brooke and Hancock Counties sit on one the largest shale gas reservoirs in the United States.
