Permitting Focused in Belmont County Last Week; Utica Shale Nears 1,000 Wells Drilled

The latest weekly update on permitting from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reveals a drop in activity from the past couple of weeks.  However, the Utica shale still moved closer to a couple of milestone figures.

Only 7 new permits were issued during the week of July 27 to August 2.  All 7 were for Belmont County well sites.  4 were issued to Gulfport Energy, while 3 went to American Energy Utica.

Despite a slow week, there are two more landmark figures that the Utica shale is poised to pass soon: 1,000 wells drilled and 500 wells producing.  According to this latest report, there are now 997 wells drilled and 491 producing.  The total number of permits issued stands at 1,428, and the Utica rig count is 47.
