Active Week Pushes Utica Shale Permit Count Over 1,300

The latest weekly permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reveals a busy week of activity.

There were 32 permits issued last week.  14 of those were in Noble County, where activity seems to be picking up.  7 permits were issued for Monroe County, all to Gulfport Energy.  Of the remaining 11 permits, 3 were for Belmont County, 2 each for Carroll and Harrison counties, and 1 each for Guernsey, Jefferson, Tuscarawas and Washington counties.

All of this activity pushes the Utica shale permit count across the 1,300 milestone, with an ending total of 1,312 at the end of last week.  The number of wells drilled also passed a new milestone, going over 900 to a total of 904.  Wells producing remained at 467 and the Utica rig count now stands at 40.
