Latest Permitting Update: Utica Rig Count Drops for Second Straight Week

The latest weekly permitting update for the Utica shale from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows that activity remained relatively slow for the second straight week.  Seven new permits were issued last week after six were listed on the report for the week before, and the rig count fell for the second consecutive week as well.

All seven permits listed on the report were issued to Rice Drilling for Belmont County wells.  Two of the seven show a status of "drilling."

The rig count fell to 22, down one from last week.  2,366 permits are now issued, with 1,894 wells and 1,486 wells producing.
