Rig Count Holds Steady in Utica Shale as Permitting Picks Back Up

After a slow week for new permits during the week of Thanksgiving, things picked up steam in Ohio's Utica shale last week.

The latest weekly update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows that 13 new permits were issued in the week ending December 4.  Nine of those permits were for Monroe County sites, three for Noble County, and one for Belmont County.

There are now 2,319 wells permitted, 1,860 wells drilled, and 1,470 wells producing.  The Utica rig count held steady from the previous report at 19.
