Permitting and Rig Count in Utica Shale Are Up for the Second Straight Week

After seeing no permits and a drop in the rig count in the ODNR's weekly Utica shale permitting report two weeks ago, the latest report shows that last week was the second straight with increased activity.

14 new permits were issued last week.  There are now 2259 wells permitted, 1807 drilled, and 1402 producing.

The rig count also increased by 5, rising to 22.  That's the highest it's been in 2016.

The chart below gives a brief glance at how the Utica rig count has moved up and down over the past 3 years.
