ODNR Report: Utica Shale Rig Count Drops for Fourth Straight Week

The latest permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reveals that while permitting activity remains relatively brisk, the Utica rig count continues to fall.

11 new permits were issued last week.  8 of those 11 were for Belmont County sites, while the remaining 3 were for Monroe County wells.  That brings the cumulative totals to 2,287 wells permitted, 1,833 wells drilled, and 1,412 wells producing.

The Utica rig count fell to 15.  Since hitting a 2016 high of 22 in the week ending October 1, the rig count has been steadily declining.
