Hardrock Excavating Fined $100,000 in Last Chapter of Youngstown Illegal Dumping Case

Hardrock Excavating LLC pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to one count of making a prohibited discharge in a waterway.

Federal officials fined Hardrock $75,000 and ordered it to make a total of $25,000 in community payments. The payments, $12,500 each, will be to the Friends of the Mahoning River and Midwest Environmental Enforcement Association.

Prosecutors accused the company of dumping oil-field waste into a Mahoning River tributary in 2012 and 2013.
