Utica Rig Count Drops Last Week; Permitting Slow Too

The latest permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows slowing activity in the Utica shale.

Only 9 new permits were issued in the week ending January 17.  4 of those permits were for Carroll County, all to Chespeake Energy.  3 permits were issued to XTO Energy for wells in Belmont County.  The remaining 2 permits went to American Energy Utica for wells in Guernsey County.

The slow week gives new cumulative totals of 1,778 permits issued, 1,312 wells drilled, and 723 wells producing.  The Utica rig count dropped all the way to 43 from 51 a week ago.
