Stark County Commissioner Highlights Benefits of Shale Development

A number of indicators outlined by Stark County Commissioner Janet Weir Creighton, a Republican candidate from Canton running unopposed for re-election on the November ballot, are convincing the entire three-member board of commissioners that oil and gas activity is indeed beginning to impact the county in a positive way. 
The first is a significant increase in sales tax revenue. The second indicator is an increase in bed tax, which includes taxes on hotel and motel stays. The third is an increase in building permits across the county. 
“Most of the oil and gas activity is southeast of Stark County. But, we are the beneficiary of some of the new businesses coming into the area, as well as new employees and their purchasing power,” said Creighton.
