Utica Shale Goes Over 1,000 Wells Drilled

Another milestone has been passed in Utica shale drilling, according to the latest weekly permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

There were 9 new permits issued last week.  8 of those were for Guernsey County sites, while the remaining one was for the Leggett 5-13-6 8H well in Carroll County.

Those 9 new permits bring the cumulative number of permitted wells to 1,431.  Meanwhile, the number of wells drilled has crossed the 1,000 mark, standing at 1,004 as of the end of last week.  The number of wells producing inched a little bit closer to the 500 milestone as well, ending up at 495.  The Utica rig count is at 48.
