Rig Count Drops on Latest Weekly Utica Shale Permitting Report



There were 9 new permits issued for horizontal drilling in the Utica shale last week, according to the weekly report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Four of the permits were for Belmont County wells, pushing the total number there to 65.  Of the remaining five permits, three were for Monroe County, which now has 59 permits.  The other two were for Carroll County, which remains the clear cut permit leader, with 360.

These 9 new permits push the cumulative total for Ohio's Utica shale to 1,024.  636 wells have been drilled, and the wells producing number remains at 250 for the third straight week.  The Utica rig count dropped to 39.
