Ohio Treasurer Vows to Fight Severance Tax

Meeting on Monday with area business leaders, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel said one of his missions is to get state government out of the way so it won’t be an obstacle to the oil and gas industry. 
He opposes plans to increase the severance tax on energy companies. “The severance tax would be unfair to Tuscarawas County,” Mandel said. “It would be a redistribution of wealth.” 
Gov. John Kasich has proposed raising the tax and using the money to pay for a statewide reduction in Ohio’s income tax.
