900 Jobs Coming to Massillon?

Location of potential development in Massillon
A recent article by Matthew Rink in Massillon's The Independent newspaper outlines the exciting possibility of a $564 million project which would represent a huge shot in the arm for the city's economy.

A Houston-based gas and oil provider, Baker Hughes Oilfield Operations, is in negotiations with the city to build a $40 million facility on a 108.5-acre parcel of land just south of U.S. Route 30 near the Northeast Ohio Commerce Park in Massillon.

In addition to the $40 million building investment, plans also call for...
a $14.5 million machinery investment, a $9.5 million land development investment, and $500 million in other investments.  The plans also outline creation of 900 full-time jobs in Massillon, with average hourly wages of $31.25 an hour, in the first three years.

Former Massillon Mayor Frank Cicchinelli expressed excitement over the potential investment.  "This is a project that would make Massillon the envy of a lot of communities," he said.

While negotiations are still continuing, a formal announcement with further details is expected to come from Governor John Kasich soon.
